Assistance with travel/transport arrangements

People living with a disability may require assistance for transport and travel if using public transport is substantially difficult.

Happy Care works through the NDIS scheme when individuals with a disability require funds for transportation. There are three general levels of funding according to the type and degree of disability.

Level one transport support provides up to $1,606 per year for disabled individuals who are not working, studying or attending regular day programs.

Level two transport support provides up to $2,472 per year for disabled individuals who are studying part-time or working part-time. Part-time is considered 15 hours per week or less. Participation in day programs and recreational activities can also be covered by this level two transport support.

Level three transport support provides up to $3,456 per year for disabled individuals who work full-time or who are looking for full-time work. Full-time students are also covered by level three transport support. Full-time for these individuals is considered 15 hours or more per week.

In some exceptional cases, a higher level of funding may be supplied according to the needs of the individual and their disability.

This NDIS transport funding is for a taxi or bus designed for those with a disability. This does not cover family members who provide you with transport. It does not cover other individuals or carers who share your transport.

NSW residents unable to use public transport due to a permanent disability should also receive a subsidy of up to 50% on taxi fares.
