SIL Accommodation

Supported Independent Living Accommodation (SIL) provides help or supervision with daily tasks for disabled individuals, helping them develop general life skills.

HAPPY CARE works through the NDIS scheme to help people with disabilities in their living arrangements. This is assistance or supervision with daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, showering and getting dressed. They can also help with social activities. This type of support is for people who require a higher level of support on a continual basis.

It is permissible to have SIL accommodation support while sharing a home with other NDIS participants.

People receiving SIL accommodation support will usually have funding for a support coordinator. This coordinator will help find a provider and develop a roster for the support workers. They will advise on the best use of your allocated funding. The coordinator can take your goals, plans for education and work, into account.

SIL funding is not to be used for rent or groceries. SIL is distinct from SDA (Special Disability Accommodation), which is housing specifically designed to help people with a disability.
